In this post, my favorite: whey isolate, meal-prep recipe, meal-prep bag (including a giveaway!), and music!

I started this “My Favorite Things” category a few months ago for those of you who’d like to get to know a little more about who’s making your favorite recipes. If you’re not interested, that’s ok; another recipe post is on its way! These are not paid ads, by the way. Some of the links are affiliate links (where the blog makes a small commission on your purchase at no extra cost to you), but they are all really my favorite things!

I’m calling these Busy Girl Favorites because I have been incredibly busy the past several months, and I’ve been turning to these to help me through. Besides having run the kickstarter to launch the online bakeshop, fulfilling those orders, making recipes for you, and working to expand production, I also have a full-time job. (And a horrible coffee addiction. I’m working on that.) I’m a math professor here in NYC, and I have a couple of long days on campus per week. So, yeah, I’ve been busy! And these are my busy girl favorite things!

My favorite whey isolate

I recently found myself buying 4 bags of Jamie Eason’s vanilla whey isolate at Meanwhile I have over 30 other protein powders in my kitchen already. So, yeah, safe to say it’s my favorite. If you’re a regular here, you’ve probably already heard me say: it tastes like cake batter! And it’s all-natural! So it is my go-to protein shake for pre- and post-workout, and for when I’m running out the door and hungry. It also makes great ice cream! If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out. And although the bag is pink, there’s nothing in it that men can’t have, so go get some!

My favorite meal-prep recipe

I used to think I was too busy to meal prep. But when I don’t take the time to meal prep, I end up wasting time and money making other food choices, and my jeans end up getting tighter… no bueno! So I’ve been making lots of Sicilian Protein Pizza lately. Not only is the pizza delicious, but there’s very little hands-on time with this recipe. While the crust bakes, I can do other things. Perfect! It’s a filling meal, and it lasts a week in the fridge. Even more perfect! And that’s why my Sicilian Protein Pizza recipe is my favorite meal-prep recipe. Try it!

And in case you missed my last recipe post, Quest Spinach Pasta Ricotta is another super-quick meal-prep idea. It uses the low-carb, high-fiber pasta from Quest Nutrition. Check it out!

My favorite meal-prep bag

I first learned about 6 Pack Fitness meal prep bags by following Nicole Wilkins on social media. Soon after, I realized that one of my students had been carrying one all semester. Although I wasn’t (and still am not) in full-on meal prep mode, I had my eye on the Renee bag. When I saw it at the Olympia last September, it was just begging to come home with me. And I have been in love with it since! Some days I’m super-prepped and calculated. Some days the best I can do is fill the compartment with a protein shake, a bag of Quest Chips, and an apple. And I still love it. Because it’s a beautiful bag, and it reminds me that I can make great food choices every day. And, an extra bonus, I feel like I’m part of a secret club. Because most people have no idea what meal-prep bags are. But my people know. You know.

I recently reached out to the team at 6 Pack Fitness, and they so generously offered to give away TWO Innovator Mini bags to YOU! So head over to my Instagram page to enter to win!  :)

My favorite music

I could not get through busy days without music! Especially when I’m in the bakery 16, 21, 24+ hours. (Yes, in a row. I’m working hard on your bakeshop orders!) Sometimes it’s pop or hip-hop, and I dance around the bakery. But mostly it’s country, and I sing my heart out. Lately this song has really hit home for me: Humble and Kind, by Tim McGraw. Because I meet some amazing people who just aren’t nice or humble. And I don’t get it. I guess it is insecurity, but they’d have better luck feeling self-worth if they’re nice to people, don’t ya think? Anyway, so many gems in the lyrics of this song:

I know you’ve got mountains to climb, but always stay humble and kind.

When the dreams you’re dreaming come to you, when the work you put in is realized, let yourself feel the pride, but always stay humble and kind.

Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why: bitterness keeps you from flying. Always stay humble and kind.

Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you.

When you get where you’re going, don’t forget; turn back around. And help the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind.

I leave you with that, my friends. As always, thanks for being here! Stay tuned for more giveaways this week, too! :)
