Today’s post isn’t a high-protein dish, but I’m sure many of you are curious about Quest pasta. When I saw a bag of their spaghetti in my latest box from Quest Nutrition, all I could think of was Quest Pasta Alla Vodka!

The pasta is made from a soluble vegetable fiber, and doesn’t have much taste on its own. Having guessed this was the case, I was ready with my Rao’s Homemade Vodka Sauce and my Locatelli Romano cheese. I’m an Italian-American girl from Brooklyn, and this is how I do pasta. ;)

I hope you weren’t expecting a homemade vodka sauce recipe here. I haven’t made a pot of sauce in over 10 years. (Shhh, don’t tell my grandma. She’ll wonder what I’m doing with my life!) I’m a practical person, and I can’t see taking the time to try and make a vodka sauce this good, when I can just buy it at the grocer around my corner. Rao’s is so good!

And the cheese. If you think that green canister of parmesan is good, I’m sorry to say you are completely missing out! This is the cheese I grew up eating every Sunday with pasta dinner (yes, at about 2pm). My parents kept it in a (now vintage) Tupperware flour sifter. (They still do!) I never thought anything of it until I tried the grated cheese at other people’s houses, and in some restaurants. I found myself saying, “eh, this cheese sucks!” and I finally asked my dad what kind of cheese we used. “Locatelli Romano,” he said. And I will never forget the name.

Ok back to the Quest pasta. I haven’t tried any of the tofu-type noodles, so I can’t compare it to those. But this pasta reminds me of rice noodles. The noodles are clear, and they don’t have a strong flavor of their own. When you open the bag it does smell a bit ocean-like (as they mention on the bag, from the alkaline water in which it is packed) but that scent rinses off and they don’t have much taste when prepared. I’ve done zucchini noodles and spaghetti squash, but this is much more like pasta than the veggies.

Be prepared for your next pasta craving by getting your hands on some Quest pasta! And I do hope you’ll try the Rao’s sauce and Locatelli cheese. I’m sure I’ll be making this Quest Pasta Alla Vodka again!
