Protein Baking Ingredients
Whey/casein blend: Quest Nutrition protein powder is great. I suggest using recipes specifically made for whey/casein blends (PEScience is another popular brand). This bakes differently than just a whey protein. Also worth noting, for some people, casein can plug up the system (if ya know what I mean), so keep an eye on that if you start having casein protein regularly.
Whey protein: Whey protein concentrates generally bake well (isolates do not). Iโve also had success with ONโs line of whey, which is a whey blend.
Plant-based protein: Warrior blend (pea protein blend) bakes well and has a subtle flavor that doesnโt overpower other ingredients. There are many pea protein blends on the market and that would bake well. Keep in mind that the ones I use don't have any gums (xanthan, guar), and protein powders that do contain these may bake slightly differently.
Healthy Snacks and Ingredients
These Quest Protein Chips are amazing, in case you haven't tried! My favorite flavors are Spicy Sweet Chili and Nacho Cheese.
And I love these Smart Sweets Peach Rings, but only the ones at Whole Foods. They have a different formulation (without allulose) and in my opinion, they taste much, much better. Even my friends who eat sugary snacks love these.
And while we're talking about candy, this Wallaby low sugar licorice is also super yummy!
With the price of vanilla being pretty high these days, I'm really enjoying this natural Baking Vanilla.
We can't forget about Lily's sugar-free chocolate chips. I love the milk chocolate chips, and eat them by the small handful. :)
And I love me some natural sprinkles! These have really nice color and flavor.
Post-Workout Protein Powder and BCAAs
The protein powder I use most at home these days (post-workout, with frozen strawberries, cherries, or banana) is KOS Superfood Protein in Chocolate. Before that I used Orgain chocolate protein powder. Both of these taste good when mixed with milk or water, even without any fruit.
This is my favorite post-workout whey, a vanilla whey isolate. I also love this in no-bake recipes (whey isolate doesn't bake as well as whey concentrate). It's not as sweet as other vanilla whey protein powders, so you might want to add some extra sweetener.
And these are my favorite BCAAs (all natural, and delicious!)
Baking Supplies
Oven thermometers make such a difference! I promise you'll be surprised at the temperature of your oven when you actually have a thermometer inside. Get this oven thermometer, and thank me later. ;)
These are my favorite piping bags. Unlike others I've tried, these are super smooth and don't stick as you try to push your batter or frosting down the bag. I always get mad at myself for buying any others.
Another must-have item, parchment circles. Never again will I spend time trying to fold parchment in quarters and eighths to try to cut a circle to fit my pan. Never again! Yay.
When you need a mixer and don't want to splurge on a KitchenAid, this is your mixer. It's affordable, works well, and has a pretty metallic finish.
These glass meal prep containers are also great for storing baked goods. I use them regularly and they hold up well in the dishwasher.
Food Photography Supplies
I'm keeping it simple here, just mentioning some things that will come in handy when using your smart phone for food photos.
You may have seen this Arkon mount before, and let me tell you, it's worth the hype! Super easy to use, and it keeps the phone much, much more steady than any other tool I've used.
This is the best affordable backdrop I've found. I like it better than my Replica Surfaces, and 1000x better than any roll up backdrops I've ever purchased. This comes in a plastic sleeve with stiff cardboard that is great for storing it in your closet.
When you need your fork to stay super still for a clear photo, use these helping hands.
The duct tape of photography: Gaf tape. Get some. You're welcome.
That's it for now! But I'll come back here to update this page regularly. Come back the the proteincakery shop soon! :)
