Protein shakes are a great way to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, get post-workout nutrition, or as an afternoon snack to keep blood sugar levels balanced. These are the best protein shake recipes you'll find, and they all use the same protein powder.

Whether you're a on a low calorie diet to lose weight or a high calorie diet to gain muscle mass, you'll find delicious shakes for you here.

These healthy shakes are so flavorful, you'll enjoy them even if you're not a protein shake person.

What makes these the best protein shake recipes?

The protein powder used in these shakes is a lightly flavored, unsweetened vanilla whey protein powder that really lets the flavor of the other ingredients shine through.

There's no overpowering protein powder taste and no overpowering sweetener taste in these protein smoothies.

The ingredients are simple and the shakes are easy to make.

There are options to adjust calories and fat as you wish.

Each shake has at least 27 grams of high-quality protein.

Since the protein powder is unsweetened, you can use your favorite sweetener.

Most of them have a base of frozen fruit (not ice), making for smoother, more flavorful shakes.

And you'll have only ONE tub of protein powder taking up kitchen space!

Click through the links below to find the full recipe and nutrient information for each protein shake recipe.

You'll see that I used dairy-free milk (low calorie almond milk and creamy oat milk) in the recipes, but you can use your favorite milk.

IMPORTANT: For best results with these recipes, use this whey protein isolate. Its subtle flavor allows the flavors of the other ingredients to shine, and really makes for the most DELICIOUS shakes. Read more about why I think it is one of the best protein powders for shakes and smoothies.

    Protein Shake Add-ins

Take your protein shakes to the next level with these additional ingredients that enhance flavor, nutrition, and versatility.

    Protein Sources:

    • 2 tablespoons collagen for joint and skin support.
    • ¼ cup Greek yogurt for added creaminess and protein.

    Superfoods:

    • A tablespoon of chia seeds for omega-3s and fiber.
    • Flaxseeds for additional healthy fats and a mild nutty flavor.

    Healthy Fats:

    • A tablespoon of peanut butter for richness and flavor.
    • A tablespoon of nut butter (almond butter is great!) or any nut butter to add creaminess and healthy fats.
    • A teaspoon of coconut oil for a subtle tropical twist and energy boost.

    Extra Carbs:

    • Simple carbs like a drizzle of maple syrup, perfect for post-workout protein shakes.
    • ¼ cup oats for texture and sustained energy (rolled oats or quick oats).
    • A frozen banana for natural sweetness and creaminess.

    Flavor Boosters:

    • 1-2 tablespoons of sugar free chocolate chips, especially delicious in the strawberry and banana protein shake recipes above.
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (opt for alcohol-free vanilla or low-alcohol baking vanilla).
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder to make a chocolate protein shake recipe.
    • A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for warm, spiced undertones. I love this Vietnamese cinnamon for its bold flavor.

These shakes will stay well for 24 hours if stored in the refrigerator. (The blueberry ones tend to separate after blended, so I'd give them a good shake before drinking.)
