Sometimes my recipe ideas come from traditional dessert recipes I find online, sometimes they come from readers, and sometimes they come from wanting to make use of what's in my refrigerator. What's a girl to do with some Greek yogurt and too many almonds? Make Vanilla Almond Protein Frozen Yogurt, that's what!

Using the Vitamin Shoppe's True Athlete Vanilla whey was a no-brainer here; it has the creamiest natural vanilla flavor! Perfect for a vanilla frozen treat!

I added a little almond extract to boost the almond flavor, and some chopped almonds for the flavor and crunch. And with a Greek yogurt base, the frozen texture is great!

If you haven't tried the True Athlete natural whey line, you are missing out! Pick some up and give this Vanilla Almond Protein Frozen Yogurt a try!

    Ingredients

    • 8 oz fat-free Greek yogurt 227g
    • 2 packets stevia 2g, or to taste
    • ¼ cup natural vanilla whey protein powder 24g
    • ⅛ teaspoon alcohol-free almond extract 0.6ml
    • 10 almonds 12g, chopped

    Instructions

    • Except for the almonds, mix all ingredients until smooth.
    • Fold in almonds.
    • Cover the bowl and freeze for about 4 hours. Every half hour or so, take the bowl from the freezer and mix the frozen yogurt. (Other options are to use an ice cream maker, or use the ice and salt method.)
    • Enjoy!

    Notes

A note about substitutions: You might try using casein in place of the whey protein powder.

I find fat-free Greek yogurt to be quite creamy, so I prefer to save the fat and calories. But you are welcome to use regular, if you prefer!
